  • Basic Explaination

    Part A

    Usually a 0 premium if you have paid 40 quarters into the system or 10 years. Has a deductible when your admitted. Has copays per day your in the hospital. Pays for hospice, skilled nursing facility.

    Part B

    Part B has a monthly premium every month. It has a yearly deductible at the beginning of the year. After the deductible has been met your coinsurance (coinsurance means percentage.) is an 80/20.

    Part C

    Part C is Medicare Plans, or Medicare Advantage. It consists of private companies that contract with Medicare. That act like a major medical plan. Mostly HMO PPO plans. Have copays and most of them cover prescriptions. A lot of them now offer extra benefits like dental and vision in there benefits.

    Part D

    Prescription drug programs. Funded by you and the government. Usually have a deductible and copays. Has 4 stages of coverage deductible stage, copay stage, coverage gap stage, and catastrophic stage. Not all Rx plans are the same.

    Secondary Insurance

    Medicare Supplements are secondary to Medicare. They have a premium and small to no copays. You can actually pick the type of coverage you want from a variety of standard plans. To make things less confusing Medicare gave them each a letter A through N. Link

    No Network

    Because Medicare has no network neither does supplements. You can go anywhere in the US even some forign travel. If the doc takes Medicare you can see him.
